    Lā Kūʻokoʻa

Independence Day is the most important national holiday in the Hawaiian Kingdom. On November 28, 1843, the independence of the Hawaiian Kingdom was formally recognized by joint proclamation of Great Britain and France, making the sovereign archipelago the first non-Western member of the Family of Nations. The annual celebration continues throughout the Hawaiian Islands today—2018 marks the 175th anniversary!
